Happy Memorial Day!

The American Hero always comes through
To capture our hearts with a spirit so true

Some proudly are soldiers who march in harm’s way
Insuring our freedom, courageous they stay

While others come forth as civilians so brave
Determined in purpose, so steadfast to save

We should always keep clear a place in our heart
For each has a value beyond precious art

Their duty to country will not be surpassed
Please honor their courage, for some it’s their last

We live in a world which can be hard to bear
Thank God for these people, how greatly they care

Do ponder new heroes and what they will face
And pray for their safety no matter their place

Our heritage brings out the best, we all know
Our great book of heroes is destined to grow

our cousin and happiest kid ever, you left this world too soon... and we are heartbroken- for you, your mom and dad and sister and everyone who was lucky enough to know you. 

 your name will not be forgotten...

mother's day 2013

two recovering from minor skin surgery, one with the flu and two bored outta their minds,

and i enjoyed every minute of takin' care of my kiddos.

dad made homemade french fries and Juicy Lucy's and we had chocolate cake for dessert. mama was surprised with a new camera to replace the one she's worn out since 2006 as well as some lovely homemade cards.

we spent a calm, relaxing Sunday eating popcicles on the deck enjoying the view of the geese. just thinking about the busy week ahead.

God is good!

Favorite Photo Friday~ chance encounters

from an early age our boys have always been brave enough to shake a veterans hand when they spot one in public. the First Lady is a bit shy at times but if her big brothers are there to approach someone with her she will go. most seem to know the routine, perhaps they are used to it. some are truly surprised, and a few have talked our ears off. i'll never forget the fellow in the Walmart candy aisle who told us the story about when the plane he was piloting ran out of fuel as he was flying over Japan. he was quite the story teller and he knew he had an audience!

since we brought the Lil' Lady home we've been lucky enough to meet a few Korean War veterans. at one point I got the idea to start taking a few pictures thinking I might compile enough to make a small album for her someday. i was worried these fine gentlemen would think I was a nut ball but it's been a wonderful experience so far. i have missed occasions when i didn't have my camera but now i always carry it with me never knowing where or when we may run in to America's finest!
